RADAR - Support Structures

Elston Engineering Services has provided design and analysis assistance for radar support structures, including adaptors, pedestals and towers.  These are generally steel or aluminium structures.  Challenges are to keep them sufficiently stiff to meet pointing requirements under operational wind loads, strong enough for survival conditions and ensuring that system natural frequencies do not coincide with forcing from the turning gear - so modelling and Finite Element analysis by EES has given the design guidance and assurances necessary before committing the building of large structures.
